Two to Become One

On November 6th & 7th, Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. held its annual sales meeting in Los Gatos, California. This was the first offsite event in seven years, with the last one taking place a few years before COVID. Tom Kumagai, CEO of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., delivered the kickoff speech welcoming both Storage and Semiconductor teams and highlighting the importance of working together to become “One.”

The Day One agenda included presentations from the top leaders of both Storage and Semiconductor groups from San Jose and Japan. It also featured keynote speeches from key customers for both groups, Kathy Thomas from Microsoft and Skip Wong of Solidigm. The first day of presentations ended with a collaborative presentation from Satoshi Gosho from the Storage Group and Jake Canon from the Semiconductor group.

The final event of Day One was the group dinner at the historic Testarossa Winery, at the base of the Santa Cruz mountains. The scenery, food, wines, and the joyful conversations provided the perfect ending to the first day. Everyone left the event with happy stomachs and beautiful memories.

Day Two was the breakout session, and each group worked independently to dive down into the details of the business. The presentations were interactive, and the open dialog amongst the team was more engaging and constructive than in previous quarterly meetings – even the laughter was contagious. Our group ended Day Two with a happy hour beverage, snacks, and conversation. Our team highlighted all of the great memories of the two day event with hopes that we can continue to have these types of meetings to bring our group closer and the fuel growth of Toshiba’s business.

This was my first offsite sales meeting since joining Toshiba, and the memories of this two day event will last forever. There was a goal to meet 5 new people during the two days, but I can definitely say that I met more than double that number and created new and strengthened old bonds with so many of my teammates. This year’s theme was “One Toshiba”, which was to leverage Toshiba’s unique business position in its Semiconductor, Storage, Batteries, and other products and services to grow our sales and the Toshiba brand.

It was Two days, Two groups to become One Toshiba – I think we succeeded!
