World Backup Day 2023

World Backup Day

It seems as if that everyone is obsessed with taking pictures. Having a camera on your smartphone makes taking pictures a snap. Many of those are uploaded onto one of the many social media sites to be shared with friends, family or followers. I too like taking pictures, except I’m more “old school”. I like taking photos using my digital SLR camera because there is something magical about looking through the viewfinder. I’ve been taking photos for nearly 40 years now, and on occasion, I still shoot pictures using my film camera. Although developing negatives is not as convenient as before, I enjoy the surprise element of seeing the developed photos.

Through the years, I have taken and collected thousands of pictures both printed and digital. I spend hours scanning and digitizing my printed pictures and then spend even more hours categorizing and upkeeping an organized library on my PC. However, all the time spent is well worth it. The library contains pictures of all of my family’s milestones. From wedding pictures to the day my daughter was born to her college graduation to our family vacations. It’s all there. One of my photos was even chosen to be featured on one of the major US airlines’ website on vacation travel. My photos are priceless to me.

Given my passion for photography and the effort and time I put into it, I am also diligent about backing up my PC. I have multiple Toshiba Canvio External Hard Drives meticulously organized by years. According to the data provided by World Backup Day, 21% of people have never made a backup. To make matters works, available data suggests that 30% of all computers are actively infected with malware and 29% of data loss cases are caused by accident.¹ March 31, 2023 is World Backup Day, and Toshiba offers a full portfolio of  External and Internal Hard Drives to fit anyone’s lifestyle and to make backing up a breeze.

Everyone has photos, videos, or other digital content that are precious to them. It’s so inexpensive and simple to back up that content. So, for this year’s World Backup Day, go out and get a Toshiba Canvio External Hard Drive and back up your data. Statistics show that you will be thankful that you did.

Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
