Before you know it, Christmas will be here. And for e-commerce, “Cyber Monday” sales can make or break the entire year. And when I think of “Cyber Monday”, I have a list of my favorite e-tailers that will be checking in on to see if anything catches my eye.
e-commerce is vastly different now than it was 15 years ago. Back then, the major department stores commonly found in the shopping malls had little idea that e-commerce would become so significant and a part of regular everyday life. e-commerce is powered by the cloud. A sizeable percentage of both content and sales transactions are channeled through various layers of cloud service providers, of which two of the largest are located in the Pacific Northwest.
Toshiba storage plays a vital part of the cloud, and its high-capacity HDDs such the 14TB* MG07 Enterprise Capacity HDD is popular for cloud service providers. And it doesn’t stop there. Toshiba’s 16TB MG08 HDD, the follow on to MG07 Series, is ramping and is projected to be a sizeable contributor to our nearline portfolio. According to John Chen, Vice President of TRENDFOCUS Inc., a leading market research firm, Toshiba’s nearline HDD market share is on track to grow between 150 to 200 basis points in 2019 fueled by products such as MG07 Series.
I wish you a great holiday season, and remember, if you’re going to shop, save yourself the time, effort, and the crowds and shop via e-commerce. After all, your transaction may be filtering through a Toshiba nearline HDD in the cloud.
Capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
