World Back Up Day – 31 March 2026

World Back Up Day 2026

I enjoy watching animal documentary shows on television. I am always amazed that all creatures are born with instincts that are critical for their livelihood. Birds do not have calendars or GPS devices, yet they know exactly when and where they need to fly for the winter. The emperor penguins, one of my favorites, make an annual trek in the autumn that takes them about 75 miles inland in Antarctica to breed. The penguins instinctively stay and endure the harshest winter conditions to ensure the birth of their offspring.

World Back Up Day March 31

The annual World Backup Day always falls on the last day of March. And as in the past, I try my best to remind everyone the importance of backing up your data. According to World Backup Day stats (https://www.worldbackupday.com/en):

  • 113 phones are lost or stolen EVERY MINUTE
  • 10%-20% of consumer PCs encounter malware annually
  • 29% of data loss are caused by accidents
  • 21% of people have never made a backup

So, it got me thinking, “why don’t we instinctively backup our data the same way that birds instinctively migrate?” It’s simply plugging the backup HDD and a few clicks, so it really makes no sense why so many people that own a phone or PC don’t backup. Toshiba’s full line up of Canvio external HDDs provide a perfect and easy solution and every model is “Storage Made Simple”.

Sotrage Made Simple

Take the pledge before it’s too late.

“I solemnly swear to backup my important documents and precious memories on March 31st. #WorldBackupDay”.

1 One Gigabyte (1GB) means 109 = 1,000,000,000 bytes and One Terabyte (1TB) means 1012 = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes using powers of 10. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 240 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system and other factors.
